Full teak deck renewal on a motor yacht

Strip-out, substrate preparation and a full Burmese teak deck renewal on a large motor yacht: process, method and result.

Handover: renewed teak deck and stair treads

Situation

The teak was worn through to the substrate in places, seams were lifting and water was reaching the decks below. The thickness survey showed local repairs would not last.

Method

We stripped the old teak and cleaned and levelled the substrate. Margin boards went down first, then the planks; seams were caulked and the whole surface sanded. Work went section by section, so the deck was never fully exposed.

Result

The whole deck, including curved side decks and stair treads, was delivered in new Burmese teak with a 12-month warranty.
