Swim platform fairing and teak renewal

Strip-out of the old teak on a motor yacht’s swim platform, fairing of the substrate and a full Burmese teak renewal including the gratings.

New Burmese teak on the swim platform

Situation

The swim platform teak was at the end of its life; the strip-out revealed old sealant residue and an uneven substrate that had to be cleaned and faired before new teak could be bonded.

Method

We removed the old teak, scraped off and sanded away the old sealant, and faired the substrate. Planks were measured and dry-fitted on board; the gratings and margin boards were remade to suit the platform. Seams were filled with Sikaflex and left to cure, then the whole surface was sanded.

Result

The platform, with its gratings and margin boards, was handed over in new Burmese teak. 12-month warranty on workmanship and materials.
